IOVU Open HMI Software

IOVU stands for “Input and Output Viewers very intuitively”. Since in any application people must gather information and interact with machines and I/O devices, therefore people need products that provide a visual image of input and output information to help them quickly identify, evaluate, and respond to potential problems.

These products are often called human machine interfaces (HMIs) or operator terminals (OTs). The IEI IOVU series Open HMI products have a wide range of capabilities to meet a wide variety of information needs in factory automation, machine automation, building automation, intelligent transportation, POS system, KIOSK system, logistics management, web applications, and database applications.

The IOVU series is a world leading Open HMI design to provide both open architectures for hardware and software. Since an IOVU Open HMI is powered by a commercial off-the-shelf RISC-based CPU and popular Windows® CE embedded OS, it is easy to support third party OEM application software such as SCADA/HMI software, database applications, networking stacks, and communication applications.

The IOVU series also provides diversified free or optional software support for ease of system integration and application development, such as optional IEI IOVU-DESIGNER software, optional OPC servers for PLC’s, thin client technology, IEI Remote Management Tool, SDK (Software Development Kit) for eMbedded Visual C++ and Visual Basic .NET, and Modbus support SDK.

Open HMI Design

Open HMIs are designed with open hardware and software architecture.

  • Open HMIs fill the gap between traditional HMI products and industrial PCs and offer traditional HMI reliability and PC flexibility.
  • Open HMIs offer increased functionality and flexibility over traditional HMIs at a lower cost than industrial PCs.
  • Open HMIs enable users to configure the product for a particular application by accessing the operating system and scaling it to meet their needs.
  • IMS Research forecasts open HMI hardware will be the fastest growing HMI hardware product.
  • The IEI IOVU series HMIs are developed based on the Open HMI design concepts.

IOVU HMI Software: IOVU-DESIGNER

The optional IOVU-DESIGNER is an easy-to-use HMI application development software and supports OPC onnectivity to leading PLC’s and 3rd party SCADA software. It provides rich components for HMI application
developments, such as buttons, meters, slides, trend, alarm, pictures, macros, recipes, web functions, and ecurity control.

Support OPC Server Architecture

The connectivity between an IOVU HMI device and a PLC is via the IEI OPC server which is preloaded in each IEI IOVU HMI device.

OPC (OLE for Process Control) is an open international standard for program interface ensuring connectivity of industrial software and devices. The OPC support helps users to link software products made by different independent manufactures, who never tested their interoperability. The growing OPC usage , has resulted in publishing of many OPC specifications and versions having different and often excessive features.

The OPC standard specifies its own alarms and events, data access, security and so on. However, among all specifications the most widely used is OPC Data Access (OPCDA), which is used to move real-time data from PLCs, and other control devices to HMIs and other display clients. The OPCDA specification is fully supported in the IEI IOVU HMI devices.

The IEI OPC Server supports following optional industrial leading PLC protocols:

ABDF1, ABNet, Delta, DeltaNet, DataExchange, Fatek, FatekNet, FujiTLink, GESNP, GESRTPNet, Hitachi, HitachiNet, Koyo, KoyoNet, LG GM, LG MK, Melsec, MelsecNet, Modbus, Modbus TCP, Omron, mronNet, Panasonic, Vesda, Yaskawa, Yaskawa Ethernet, Yaskawa CPGLU, Yokogawa, YokogawaNe.
